Why do you use Coconut Oil in your Lip Balm if it is comedogenic?Updated 2 years ago
In our Lip Balm formulas the ingredient is listed as "Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil". The ingredient is listed this way because we use only fractionated Coconut Oil (Cocos Nucifera) in our formulas, the scientific name is required to denote the difference, however we did choose to add the common name in parenthesis for ease of identification!
While virgin coconut oil is comedogenic, fractionated coconut oil has had the long chain triglycerides removed by the non-chemical fractionating process. Breaking those long chain triglycerides make the fractionated coconut oil much less comedogenic than virgin coconut oil and generally better for use in skin care products. Fractionated Coconut Oil also has a nearly indefinite shelf life which is an extra bonus!
Of course, you are the ultimate authority in what is best for your skin.
While most of our products have not been third-party tested to be considered non-comedogenic, the Milk Primer SPF 35 has been tested by a third-party to be non-comedogenic.
